The Chevrolet Corvette C3 is the most famous American sports car. Its exotic lines combined with a powerful 8-cylinder engine captivated the whole world. In 1978 53,807 vehicles were manufactured, making it the most successful generation, beating its predecessors: the Corvette C1 (1953-1963) and the Corvette C2 (1963-1968).

The third generation Chevrolet Corvette (C3) was manufactured between 1968 and 1982. However in those years cars were evolving and some models enjoyed greater popularity and success. This was the case of the 1978 Chevrolet Corvette C3 which is part of the collection of Grup Limousines. In 1978 the Corvette C3 was chosen as the pace car of the famous 500-mile race at Indianapolis. This pushed the Corvette engineers and designers to build a limited edition of 2,500 units with the name "Indy 500 pace car replica“.

The main distinction of this limited edition was the body colour, which combined black on metallic silver with a bright red line separating the two colors. They were also equipped with a wing on each end to give the car a more dramatic look and improve the aerodynamics. All replicas were also equipped with two glass t-tops, alloy wheels, electric windows, air conditioning, power locks and rear defroster. The final touch was the Indy 500 sticker set included with each vehicle of this limited edition.
